Are Pelican Dangerous?

Yesterday, before I checked my Yahoo mail box, I came across this news, titled TV presenter attacked by a pelican. The news is mainly about a weatherman of Australia's Nine Network named Steven Jacobs has been attacked by a pelican called Manny while live broadcast from Taronga Zoo in Sydney.

This is the video of the incident from youtube.com.

Some of you might found this video is funny. Personally I think, pelicans can be dangerous. The crews and the zookeepers should lend him a hand and control the pelicans instead of laughing at first.

There are lots of injuries caused by pelicans. One of the case happen around May 2008, experienced by a housecleaner, Debbie Shoemaker from Ohio. While she was swimming in the gulf of Mexico, out of the blue, the bird with the large beak ripped through her cheek and requiring 25 stitches (to read more about this, click this link).

This is the TV news of the incident from youtube.com.

According to whozoo.org, pelican's beak can hold up 3 gallons (11.4 liters) of water. These spesies use its beak as a pouch to capture both water and prey. The images which is owned by The Inquisitr shows a woman attacked by pelican during her photoshoot.

Can you see how wide its beak can open?

Watch the last video from youtube.com and you will not going to believe it.

In a nutshell, we must always be aware with animals, either tame or wild. Sometimes, tame animals can turn up wild just in a snap. We can't expect and predict them. Bear in mind, safety first!
